The kit of the 21st century / Il kit del 21° secolo

A few months ago, I found  "The kit of the 21st century" on Amazon's Kindle daily deals, I thought it was a book of a small matter but the description in the item page has convinced me to buy it.
Written by two french authors translated into Italian, in English I have not found it, perhaps it has not been translated yet.

Tempo fa, sempre su Amazon, ho trovato in offerta lampo "Il kit del 21° secolo",  pensavo si trattasse di un libro di poco conto ma le righe presenti nella pagina dell'inserzione mi hanno convinto ad acquistarlo.
Scritto da due autori francesi e tradotto in italiano, in inglese non l'ho trovato, forse non è stato ancora tradotto.

The book proposes the " 625 things you need to know about the conte today's world."
I must admit I was very impressed, the book covers a wide variety of topics and offers cross-cutting knowledge that should be acquired by all.
While reading , I happened many times to think , "Oh , that's what it means this thing! " or "I thought it was just the opposite! " , I am glad I downloaded this book because it helped me to better understand even those things I hear about every day.
Of course, the arguments are not extensive , offers a smattering general but not trivial.
It use a very simple jargon , topics such as economics , chemistry and medicine are understandable by anyone .
Reading the paragraphs that talk about issues already known ( In my case, computer science, knowledge gained through studies ) was anything but boring , see how the authors were able to express a concept not using a dialectic purely sectoral was very interesting .
To summarize, this book provides the concepts that give us the ability to sustain a basic conversation about a wide range of topics, also puts us aware of all the phenomena (social, literary , film , etc. . ) that we hear about every day.
I highly recommend it , if you ever get the chance to read this book , do it!

Il libro propone le "625 cose che devi sapere del mondo di oggi" .
Devo ammettere di essere rimasto molto colpito, il libro tratta dei più disparati argomenti ed offre delle conoscenze trasversali che dovrebbero essere acquisite da tutti.
Durante la lettura, mi è capitato molte volte di pensare "Ah, ecco cosa vuol dire questa cosa!" oppure "Io pensavo fosse esattamente il contrario!", sono felicissimo di aver scaricato questo libro perché mi è servito per capire meglio anche quelle cose di cui sento parlare tutti i giorni.
Naturalmente gli argomenti non sono approfonditi, offre una infarinatura generale ma non banale.
Usa un gergo molto semplice, argomenti come l'economia, la chimica e la medicina sono fruibili da chiunque.
Leggere paragrafi che parlano a proposito di temi già noti (Nel mio caso l'informatica, conoscenze apprese con gli studi) è stato tutt'altro che noioso, vedere come gli autori sono riusciti ad esprimere un concetto non usando una dialettica prettamente settoriale è stato decisamente interessante.
Per riassumere, questo libro offre delle nozioni che ci danno la possibilità di sostenere una conversazione basilare a proposito di una vasta gamma di argomenti, inoltre ci mette al corrente di tutti quei fenomeni (sociali, letterali, cinematografici ecc.) di cui sentiamo parlare tutti i giorni ma di cui ignoriamo l'essenza.
Ve lo consiglio vivamente, se avrete mai la possibilità di leggere questo libro, fatelo!

I've always wanted to read Sherlock Holmes, but I've never had the opportunity, so long ago when I found on Amazon Tutto Sherlock Holmes at € 0.99 (For English people Sherlock Holmes: The Ultimate Collection ) I couldn't resist. (not that the normal price is less attractive: €2,99 )

Within a single ebook are present:

It seemed to me a great incentive to start reading, plus, searching in the web, I discovered that the edition of the book is not bad even though many complain about the presence of misspellings, when I read all I will tell you better.

Ho sempre voluto leggere Sherlock Holmes ma non ne ho mai avuto l'occasione, così quando tempo fa su Amazon ho trovato in offerta Tutto Sherlock Holmes a 0,99€ non ho saputo resistere. (non che il prezzo normale sia meno allettante: 2,99€)

Mi è sembrato un ottimo incentivo per iniziare a leggerlo, oltretutto, informandomi, ho scoperto che l'edizione non è nemmeno malvagia anche se in molti lamentano la presenza di errori ortografici, quando lo leggerò tutto vi saprò dire meglio. 
 
For now I have started to read the first novel, A Study in Scarlet.
In this novel, through the eyes of Watson, the figure of Holmes is presented.
It all starts with Watson, war veteran, looking for an accommodation in London. Here, through a mutual friend, he is presented with Holmes who is looking for a roommate.
Watson, as the book continues, is increasingly intrigued from the mystery surrounding Sherlock, is also intrigued by the life he leads, his habits and his unusual confidence.
He continues to ask himself one question, it has become like an obsession: "What job does Holmes?" The entire story revolves around the discovery of a body in a London flat, the police did not know how to continue the case, they called Holmes, who has a lot of fame for investigation.
Here begins the story, the reader will be accompanied throughout the investigation, will not be aware of what goes on in the mind of Holmes, the truth will be revealed only at the end.
It will take a long time before Holmes involves Watson in the investigation, which will prove to be an excellent resource.

Per ora ho iniziato a leggere il primo romanzo: Uno studio in rosso. 
In questo romanzo, tramite gli occhi di Watson, viene presentata la figura di Holmes. 
Il tutto si apre con Watson, reduce di guerra, in cerca di un alloggio a Londra. Qui, tramite un amico in comune, gli viene presentato Holmes il quale è in cerca di un coinquilino. 
Watson, man mano che il libro avanza, è sempre più incuriosito dall'aria misteriosa che circonda Sherlock, è inoltre incuriosito dalla vita che egli conduce, dalle abitudini inconsuete e dalla sua riservatezza. 
Continua a porsi una domanda, ormai diventata come un ossessione: "Che lavoro fa Holmes?". 
Tutto il racconto gira intorno al ritrovamento di un corpo in un appartamento londinese, la polizia non sapendo come proseguire il caso, chiama Holmes, il quale è dotato di parecchia fama in ambito investigativo. 
Qui parte la storia, il lettore verrà accompagnato durante tutta l'investigazione, non verrà a conoscenza di ciò che passa nella mente di Holmes, la verità verrà svelata solo alla fine. 
Ne passerà di tempo prima che Holmes coinvolga Watson nell'investigazione, il quale si rivelerà un'ottima risorsa. 

I really liked the combination of Sherlock and Watson, characterized in a completely different way. Watson is the character that represents the view of the reader, through him we can better understand what goes on in the mind of Sherlock.

The book consists of two parts, the first is that of which I have just talked about, while the second says, from the beginning, the events that led to the body that it will be found dead by police in London later.
I loved this division, the second part apparently has nothing to do with the first, the reader will understand slowly what the book is talking about and the connection with the first part of the book.

Mi è piaciuto molto il binomio Sherlock-Watson, caratterizzati in maniera completamente diversa. Watson è quel personaggio che rappresenta la visione del lettore, attraverso lui riusciremo a capire meglio quello che passa nelle mente di Sherlock. 
Il libro è composto da due parti, la prima è quella di cui vi ho appena parlato, mentre la seconda racconta, sin dal principio, le vicende che hanno portato alla morte del corpo che verrà successivamente ritrovato senza vita dalla polizia londinese. 
Ho amato questa divisione, la seconda parte apparentemente non c'entra nulla con la prima, il lettore capirà pian piano di cosa si sta parlando e della connessione con la prima parte del libro.

Questo primo libro mi è piaciuto davvero molto, non pensavo potesse prendermi così tanto e non vedo l'ora di continuare con i successivi. Voi l'avete letto? Cosa ne pensate di Sherlock Holmes?

Trasparent Things / Cose Trasparenti - Nabokov

"Transparent Things" is the third book I've read by Nabokov,  I have to admit that I loved it from the first row.
The book talks about the life of Hugh Person and his four trips to Switzerland.
Each of these trips is an important moment for Hugh, he has a strong bond with this land.
The first travel during his teenage years with his father, the second when he goes to interview Mr R, the third when madness and murder take over and finally the fourth, which gives him the opportunity to reflect on his past.

“Cose trasparenti” è il terzo libro di Nabokov che ho letto, devo ammettere che l’ho amato sin dalla prima riga.
Il libro racconta la vita di Hugh Person e dei suoi quattro viaggi in svizzera.
Ognuno di questi viaggi rappresenta un momento importante per Hugh, ha un forte legame con questa terra.
Il primo fatto durante la sua adolescenza accompagnato dal padre, il secondo quando va ad intervistare Mr R, il terzo dove la pazzia e l’omicidio prendono il sopravvento ed infine il quarto, che gli offre la possibilità di riflettere sul suo passato.

The book is an intersection of informations that go to link together as you get towards the end, I personally did not find it boring at all, I really like the style of Nabokov.
I found the figure of Mr. R interesting, he is writer, which is accused of "fiddling with minors", as if Nabokov wanted to answer throught Mr. R on the same allegations that were made after the release of Lolita.
In addition, the Italian version of the book has been translated from Nabokov's son.

Il libro è un incrocio di informazioni che vanno a legarsi man mano si arriva verso la fine, personalmente non l’ho trovato per niente noioso,  mi piace davvero molto lo stile di Nabokov.
Ho trovato interessante la figura di mr. R, autore di libri, che viene accusato di “trastullarsi con i minori”, è come se Nabokov avesse voluto rispondere tramite Mr. R alle stesse accuse che gli vennero fatte dopo l’uscita di Lolita.
Inoltre la versione italiana del libro è stata tradotta dallo stesso figlio di Nabokov.

A brilliant book, very detailed, smooth, really enjoyable to read.
Nabokov not disappointed me yet, although I must admit that Lolita is still my favorite.

Un libro geniale, curato nei minimi dettagli, scorrevole, davvero piacevole da leggere.
Nabokov non mi ha ancora deluso, anche se devo ammettere che Lolita resta ancora il mio preferito.
